At the young age of 9 Michael Cuccione was diagnosed with Hodkin's Disease which is a form of cancer affecting the lymph nodes. After Chemotherapy, radiation, and treatments he was cancer free for 5 months. The following year it spread to his lungs and after a successful bone marrow transplant he was cancer free for 5 years but due to past treatments he was left unable to move air properly through his lungs.
Due too his breathing problems he had to use a portable oxygen tank during tapings of "2gether: The Series," and he missed a lot of tapings of it. After a minor car accindent in December, 2000 he couldn't fight the effects of it off. He was entered in the hospital on December 4, 2001 for Pheumonia. Where he remained on a respirator until he passed away on January 13, 2001 of respiratory failure. At the age of 16 only 8 days after his birthday with his Mom, Dad, sister, and his brother by his side.
He defintely left his mark in the world with his foundation called the "Michael Cuccione's Foundation for Cancer Research." His foundation gained more then $500,000 towards research on cancer. He made a 5 song CD for his foundation called "Making a Difference."
He his a great inspiration to young and old. He proved that you should enjoy life no matter how bad it is. According to his Mom, Gloria "He was in a lot of pain but I didn't realize it because he hid it with a smile. I think god knew he was suffering too much." His Uncle also named, Michael said that "He was brave until the end, often giving the "thumbs-up" sign from his hospital bed."
